Fresno State men’s basketball has added a high-upside transfer in KJ Perry, a 6-foot-3 point guard who spent last season at BYU. Head coach Vance Walberg announced the signing earlier this week. Perry, who redshirted during the 2025-26 season after joining the Cougars as a mid-year enrollee in December, brings three years of eligibility and immediate backcourt production to the Bulldogs. Proven Production at the JUCO Level Before arriving at BYU, Perry was one of the top junior-college prospects in the country. As a freshman at Citrus College in Glendora, California, during the 2024-25 season, he averaged 17.5 points, 2.8 assists, and shot 49.5 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from three-point range. He was ranked the No. 1 junior-college point guard nationally and earned four-star status. A native of Castaic, California, Perry was a three-star recruit out of SoCal Academy in the 2024 high school class. He initially committed to Cal State Northridge before electing to play junior-college basketball to further his development. What Perry Brings to the Bulldogs Perry described the style of play he will bring to Fresno State: “I’m bringing an athletic point guard who can score, get teammates involved, and be a defensive dog.” Scouting evaluations highlight his ability to create off the dribble, attack the rim with a variety of finishes, and facilitate effectively out of ball screens. While listed as a combo guard, he projects primarily as a point guard who can play on or off the ball. The commitment makes Perry the fourth transfer addition for Fresno State this offseason, joining Dragos Lungu (UT Martin), Quentin Rhymes (Nebraska), and Brian Amuneke (Wichita State). He is the first known point guard to commit to the program for the 2026-27 season. Outlook for 2026-27 Fresno State, now competing in the restructured Pac-12, continues to rebuild under Walberg. Perry’s combination of athleticism, scoring ability, playmaking, and defensive intensity is expected to provide a significant boost to the backcourt as the Bulldogs aim to compete in conference play. More details, including quotes from Perry and Walberg, are expected in the coming days as the program continues its offseason roster construction.
