Overview

OFF SZN Hoops(“we”, “our”, “us”) operates a publicly-available recruiting coverage site at offsznhoops.com. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, what your rights are, and how to get a profile removed.

The site has two separate data streams that each deserve their own explanation: user accounts (people who register and sign in) and player profiles (public recruiting pages for high-school athletes). We treat them differently because the consent model is different.

1. User Accounts (self-registered)

When you create an account we collect:

• Name, email, password— passwords are hashed with bcrypt; we never store them in the clear and they’re never logged.
• Home state — used to scope your default rankings / news feed.
• Optional profile info — user type (player / coach / parent / scout / fan / media), phone, city, birth year. All optional; you can skip every one and still use the site.
• Subscription data — if you subscribe, Stripe handles the card number; we receive only a subscription status + plan tier. We never see your card.
• Usage data— pages viewed, searches, follows, saved items. Used to personalize rankings, generate the “For You” feed, and detect abuse.
• Local storage — your browser remembers your watchlist, state preference, and recently-viewed players. These never leave your device.

You can exercise data rights directly from Account Settings: download a JSON export of everything we hold on your account, or permanently delete your account and all associated data — both are instant and require no email request. For requests that can’t be handled in-app, email privacy@offsznnetwork.com and we respond within 30 days.

2. Player Profiles (public data)

Recruiting is inherently a public-records beat. Player profiles on OFF SZN Hoops are built from publicly-available sources: published rosters, press coverage, tournament records, commitment announcements, and social media that the athlete has publicly posted. Profiles may include name, photo, position, class year, school, club program, measurables, rankings, offers, visits, and commitment.

We do not collect sensitive personal information (address, phone, email, grades, medical data, social security number, financial account) for player profiles. If you believe a profile contains sensitive information that shouldn’t be there, tell us immediately (see “Profile Removal” below).

Athletes (or their parents / guardians) can claimtheir profile to correct information, request a takedown, or manage what’s displayed.

3. Minors — COPPA and Parental Consent

Users under 13: OFF SZN Hoops is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly allow users under 13 to create accounts. If we learn that someone under 13 has created an account, we delete the account and any associated data promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, emailprivacy@offsznnetwork.com and we will remove it.

Player profiles of minors: Some high-school athletes covered on the site are under 18. We only display information that is already publicly available (rosters, box scores, commitment announcements) and we do not collect data directly from minors. A parent or legal guardian can request the complete removal of any player profile, with no questions asked, by emailingprivacy@offsznnetwork.com with the athlete’s name, school, and the parent’s relationship to the athlete. We act on verified guardian requests within 7 days.

Middle-school coverage: Our middle-school rail, which covers a narrow slice of top 6th–8th-grade prospects, follows the same policy: public sources only, immediate removal on guardian request, no direct data collection from the minor.

4. Profile Removal

Whether you’re the athlete, a parent / guardian, or a rights holder, the profile-removal path is the same:

1. Email privacy@offsznnetwork.com with the athlete’s full name, high school, and class year.
2. Tell us your relationship to the athlete (self, parent / guardian, coach, agent, other).
3. We verify the request (typically with a reply confirming the school or guardian relationship) and remove the profile within 7 business days.

For copyright or licensing takedown requests (photos, article content, video highlights), use the DMCA policy, which has its own designated agent and statutory timeline.

5. How We Use Information

• Operate and secure the site; authenticate users; prevent abuse.
• Personalize rankings, the “For You” feed, state-scoped default views, and email alerts you opt into.
• Send transactional email (account verification, password reset, commitment alerts on players you follow, subscription receipts).
• Process subscription payments via Stripe; Stripe’s privacy policy governs card-level data.
• Measure product performance (aggregate analytics via PostHog, error telemetry via Sentry). We do not use these tools for cross-site advertising tracking.

6. What We Don’t Do

• We do not sell personal information.
• We do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing.
• We do not track users across unrelated websites.
• We do not use recruiting data to target advertising back at the recruited athletes.

7. California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

If you’re a California resident, you have the right to knowwhat personal information we’ve collected about you, delete it, correct inaccuracies, and limitthe use of sensitive personal information. We do not sell personal information, so the “do not sell” right is automatically honored.

Send CCPA / CPRA requests to privacy@offsznnetwork.com with the subject line “CCPA request” and enough identifying information for us to verify you. We respond within the 45-day statutory window.

8. Arizona Residents

Arizona law recognizes a right of publicity that limits the commercial use of a person’s name, photograph, and likeness without consent. OFF SZN Hoops covers high-school recruiting as editorial content — the First-Amendment-protected side of that right. We do not license athlete names or likenesses for advertising, merchandise, or endorsement purposes. If you believe your name or likeness has been used in a way that crosses the editorial line, email privacy@offsznnetwork.com.

9. Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies for session authentication (signed JWT from NextAuth) and CSRF protection. We use browser localStorage for preferences that never leave your device (watchlist, recently viewed, theme, state default).

Free-tier pages display ads powered by Google AdSense. AdSense loads a third-party script (pagead2.googlesyndication.com) that may set its own cookies and collect data for ad personalization per Google’s Privacy Policy. Signed-in premium subscribers see no ads and no AdSense script is loaded on their sessions. We do not use AdSense or any advertising cookies for our own cross-site tracking or profiling.

Beyond AdSense (free-tier only), we do not set third-party tracking cookies, retargeting pixels, or fingerprinting scripts. No cookies from us are set until you interact with the site.

10. Data Retention

We retain data only as long as necessary for the stated purpose. Specific retention periods by data type:

• Account data — retained while your account is active and for 12 months after closure, unless you request earlier deletion. You can request immediate deletion at any time from Account Settings.
• Player profiles— retained as editorial archive indefinitely unless removal is requested (see “Profile Removal” above).
• Analytics events — aggregated and retained for up to 24 months, then purged. Raw event data (if any) is anonymized within 90 days.
• Audit logs — retained for 36 months for security and fraud investigation purposes.
• Payment records — retained for 7 years per standard financial-record obligations.

10a. Security Incident & Breach Notification

In the event of a personal data breach that poses a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will:

1. Notify regulators — report to the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach (GDPR Art. 33 / state equivalent).
2. Notify affected users — send individual notice by email within 30 days where feasible, or post a prominent site-level notice when individual contact is not reasonably possible, consistent with Arizona SB 1078 and applicable state breach-notification laws.
3. Document the incident — keep an internal record of all personal data breaches, their effects, and remediation steps taken.

If you believe your OFF SZN account has been compromised, change your password immediately at /forgot-password and email privacy@offsznnetwork.com with the subject line “Security concern”.

11. Your Data Rights (Self-Service)

Registered users can exercise data rights directly from Account Settings:

• Export your data — download a JSON file of everything we hold on your account (full profile and demographic details, follows, posts and comments, reactions, suggestions, claims, subscription info, and any push/device records) via the Your data → Download as JSON link.
• Delete your account — the Delete my accountbutton permanently removes your account and every post, comment, suggestion, and claim you’ve made.
• Email preferences — opt out of marketing email at any time from Settings or via the unsubscribe link in any email we send.

For requests that can’t be handled in-app (e.g., removal of a player profile you don’t own, or a data-portability request in a structured machine-readable format), email privacy@offsznnetwork.com.

12. Cookies, Tracking & Consent Records

Cookies we set: We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in. On free-tier pages, Google AdSense may set third-party advertising cookies (see section 9 above). We do not set our own third-party tracking pixels or fingerprinting scripts. Analytics (if enabled) are first-party only and anonymize IP addresses before storage.

Terms of Service acceptance: When you create an account we record a termsAcceptedAt timestamp so we can demonstrate you agreed to the then-current ToS. You can request a copy of this record by emailing privacy@offsznnetwork.com.

Email marketing consent: We record your newsletter opt-in/opt-out preference with a timestamp each time it changes — including the IP address of the request — to satisfy CAN-SPAM and CASL unsubscribe-record obligations. You can change this at any time in Account Settings.

Minor profiles (COPPA): We do not knowingly allow users under 13 to create accounts. Athlete profiles sourced from public recruiting databases may include high-school players who are under 18; those pages do not collect any data from the athlete unless the athlete (or a parent/guardian) creates an account and claims the profile. Parents may request removal of any profile involving a minor by emailing privacy@offsznnetwork.com.

13. Changes

We will update this policy as the site grows or when required by law. The “Last updated” date above always reflects the current version. Material changes will be announced via email to registered users at least 14 days before they take effect.
